“Tango is a dance that is about movement between here and there, about an exchange between two bodies, about the pain of disconnection and the desire for communication.” – Erin Manning, Politics of Touch: Sense, Movement, Sovereignty.
Lelde’s work explores different aspects of tango. She plays with painting and sketching tango movement as well as creating limited edition, digital prints. These have been carefully constructed from photos of traces, on the floor (in talcum powder) of her own dancing. Tango can be like “drawing” over the floor with your feet. The mood and rhythm of the dance is clear to see in these monochromatic works.
